Amadou Soukouna Joins Cape Town City
Cape Town City have acquired the services of longtime target, Amadou Soukouna.
On Thursday, 22 August, City tweeted a short video clip of the 32-year-old French forward wearing his new club attire, captioning it: “The south of France to Cape Town. Amadou Soukouna is a Citizen!”
Details regarding the length of contract and his salary have yet to be disclosed.
Soukouna is no stranger to South African soil: the former French youth international previously plied his trade at Durban City FC (formerly Maritzburg United) between 2021 and 2023, where he scored 11 goals in 35 starts across all competitions.
City coach, Eric Tinkler, had long sought to bring Soukouna to the club to bolster their attacking options. However, Soukouna faced challenges in returning to South Africa due to visa-related complications.
Fortunately, those issues have cleared up, and Soukouna arrived in the country on Monday, 19 August.
Cape Town City are scheduled to face Orlando Pirates in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final next Tuesday, 27 August – so, it’s not out of the question that Soukouna could make his debut in that match!
